I moved from sunny San Diego to full-seasoned Chicago, and here are some highlights of where I live and some of the nearby adventures I’ve gone on so far!
I live in the South Loop – easy walk or bike-ride to everything downtown and a 25-30 minute commute to the hospital. After match, my boyfriend and I toured a few Chicago apartments for a weekend and found a lovely 1-BR, close to restaurants, Mariano’s (or the equivalent of Ralph’s for Californians), and my favorite lake access spot – Solider Field.
Here are some neighborhood pictures:
Move in day – I love my apartment because of the amount of LIGHT & city green!

Soldier Field – this is the access point I use to get to Lakefront Trail for runs & biking.

Lakefront trail – I heavily utilize this to bike commute to other parts of Chicago or just for fun!

Some nearby adventures I’ve gone on:
North Avenue Beach: Northern viewpoint of the beach & kite surfing! There are other beaches in the city that are closer as well! (45 minute bike ride)

Guaranteed Rate Field: I am 1 CTA stop away from the White Sox stadium. Go sports! (15 minute CTA)

Climbing gyms: I love rock climbing and here is where I go! I haven’t committed to membership at one particular gym yet but am trying out two chains with bundle deals (First Ascent and Brooklyn Boulders). Their locations are all within walking, biking, CTA, driving distance.

Lincoln Park Zoo: This is a FREE zoo right in the middle of the city! Perfect for a weekend walk through. (30 minute bike ride)

Indiana Sand Dunes National Park: Offers lots of trails in a “forest in a beach” kind of vibe (1 hour drive)
