Neighborhood Snapshot #6 (Bolingbrook- Western Burbs)

Why I love My Neighborhood: Bolingbrook is in the “western suburbs” which is roughly 30 minutes straight west of the hospital. My wife and I knew we wanted to buy a house to renovate during residency and luckily there were plenty of affordable options within 30 minutes of the hospital. We are located 15 minutes from downtown Naperville (one of the larger cities in the suburbs) which is full of great restaurants and bars. We are also close to the train station which gives us easy access to the city (especially important for cubs games). We love our location as we were able to move near our college friends, have plenty of house space, and a large backyard to enjoy while still having easy access to great restaurants.

Photo 1: Move-in day to our new house. A huge reason for us living in the suburbs was to be able to buy a house. We love being able to slowly renovate our house together and to have all our friends over in our backyard.

Photo 2: Downtown Naperville Riverwalk. Beautiful trail in the heart of the downtown area with access to kayaking, paddleboards, and nearby restaurants and bars. My wife and I spend a lot of our free time in this area.

#TheACMCDifference I first learned about Advocate Christ through a close medical school friend who rotated here and raved about his experience. A few things that really caught my interest were the 1:1 faculty to resident shift coverage starting as an intern which allowed me to quickly adapt to managing a full team, running my own resuscitation, and performing procedures. The acuity and volume seen here at ACMC has made me feel comfortable independently managing any pathology that may walk into my ED next year. Another thing I love is that the attendings, residents, nurses, etc. are all on a first name basis while at work. This may not sound like a huge deal but eliminating the stereotypical hierarchy in the ED has made an incredible impact on both our ability to work as a team during a shift and enjoy our time together. Often this carries over into post-shift drinks near the hospital with our attendings (pre-COVID).
